Pallet Bin Buying Guide Australia

Published 20 June 2026 · 7 min read · Brisbane, QLD

Buying pallet bins for the first time, or standardising across a growing operation? This practical guide walks through the decisions that matter — capacity, wall type, load rating, food grade and lids — so you order the right bin once. From Nally Bin, Brisbane.

1. Size and footprint

Most Australian operations standardise on a 1200 × 1000 mm footprint so bins fit standard racking, forklifts and truck decks. Our bins hold 700 litres at about 915 mm tall — a practical size that’s big enough to be efficient but still manageable when full. Matching your footprint avoids wasted space and re-handling.

2. Perforated or solid walls

This is the key product decision. Choose perforated walls (the BP 1-2R) for fruit, vegetables and anything that needs airflow or drainage. Choose solid walls (the BP 2-2R) for seafood, liquids, ice, powders and dry goods you want fully contained.

3. Load rating

Check both static and dynamic ratings. Static is how much the bin holds when stacked and stationary; dynamic is what it can carry while being moved. Our boxes are rated to 5,000 kg static and around 1,000 kg dynamic, which suits dense bulk product like seafood, grain and liquids.

4. Food grade or not

If the bin will ever touch food, insist on virgin food-grade HDPE with no recycled fillers. It’s safe for direct contact, non-absorbent and easy to sanitise. All Nally Bin boxes are food-grade HDPE, so they suit seafood, produce and food processing as well as general storage.

5. Lids and accessories

A BPL 1 lid adds stacking stability and protects contents from rain, dust and pests. The BP 1-2R comes with a lid; for the BP 2-2R you can add one for $50 + GST. If you stack bins or transport open product, a lid is worth it.

6. Local stock and freight

Buying from local Brisbane stock means no long lead times — pick up from Salisbury or get fast freight across Queensland and Australia. For deeper reading, compare materials in our HDPE vs metal guide or scale up with our bulk storage solutions guide.
