Fruit and Vegetable Storage Bins

Published 20 June 2026 · 5 min read · Brisbane, QLD

Fresh produce is fragile and perishable, so the bin you pick, store and transport it in directly affects shelf life and waste. Vented, food-grade pallet bins keep airflow up and damage down. Here’s how to choose, and what Nally Bin stocks for growers and packers.

Why ventilation matters

Fruit and vegetables continue to respire after harvest, giving off heat and moisture. Trapped heat accelerates ripening and spoilage. The perforated BP 1-2R pallet box has vented walls that let air move through the load, helping field heat escape and keeping produce fresher for longer in the cool room.

From paddock to packing shed

The same bin works across the whole flow: picking in the field, transport to the shed, cool storage, and dispatch. Because they’re stackable and use a standard footprint, they integrate with racking, forklifts and trucks without re-handling product into different containers.

When to choose solid walls instead

Some produce — washed root vegetables, anything packed with ice, or liquids — is better in the solid wall BP 2-2R, which contains moisture and run-off. A BPL 1 lid fits both models for stacking and protection. If you also handle seafood, see our seafood storage guide.

Hygiene and food safety

HDPE is non-porous and doesn’t absorb moisture or odours, so bins clean up quickly and fit a HACCP-based cleaning routine. There are no splinters or timber grain to harbour bacteria. Ready to set up for the season? Request a quote or message us on WhatsApp.

Frequently asked questions

What bins are best for storing fruit and vegetables?

Vented bins like the perforated BP 1-2R are best because the airflow helps release field heat and keeps produce fresher for longer in storage.

Are produce bins food safe?

Yes. They are moulded from food-grade HDPE that is safe for direct contact with fruit and vegetables and easy to sanitise between crops.

Can I use the same bins for picking and cool storage?

Yes. The bins are designed to move with the product from field to shed to cool room, and they stack on a standard 1200 × 1000 mm footprint.

Do you deliver produce bins outside Brisbane?

Yes. We hold stock in Brisbane and can arrange freight across Queensland and Australia, or you can pick up from Salisbury.
